Colloquium: Fernando Lopez-Lezcano, Elliot Kermit-Canfield, Ge Wang and Romain Michon
Please join us this Wednesday, April 20th, at 5:30 PM in the CCRMA classroom for two talks from our very own Fernando Lopez-Lezcano, Ge Wang, and Romain Michon. Abstracts are below.
FAUST => ChucK => FaucK!
Ge Wang and Romain Michon
We present the latest abomination in music programming languages -- FaucK 2.0 -- which combines the succinct and powerful Functional AUdio STream (FAUST) language with the "strongly-timed" ChucK audio programming language! FaucK allows programmers to on-the-fly evaluate FAUST code directly from ChucK and control FAUST signal processors using ChucK's flexible, sample-precise timing and concurrency mechanisms. The goal is to create an amalgam that plays to the strengths of each language, giving rise to new possibilities for rapid prototyping, interaction design and controller mapping, pedagogy, and new ways of working with both FAUST and ChucK. We present our ongoing exploration, live demos/examples, and a lightning FaucK tutorial.
Adventures in 3D Printing Microphone Arrays
Fernando Lopez-Lezcano and Elliot Kermit-Canfield
More details on the ongoing saga of the SPhEAR project - a family of parametric 3D printed soundfield microphone arrays. Printing them was tricky. The capsule electronic interface was not easy either. And calibration is not a piece of cake either. But we will have cake in the end! Come and hear the details (I do have a working prototype this time!)
