Ludmila Yurina: Other Visions

Ludmila Yurina is a pianist, musicologist and a composer of symphonic, chamber, choral, vocal, electroacoustic, film music. She has served as artistic director of numerous festivals in Ukraine and abroad .
Yurina graduated from the R. Glier Kyiv Music College, speciality in “piano" , P.Tchaikovsky National music Academy of Ukraine in the specialty "composition" and assistantship-internship under Prof. E.Stankovych.
She attended workshops of distinguished composers and performers such as Paul-Heinz Dittrich, Gerhard Staebler, Joel Durand (Rheinsberg, Germany) , Helmuth Lachenmann and Wolfgang Rihm (Dresden, Germany).
She was music-director of some studio-theaters in Kyiv, a member of the Organizing Committee and project coordinator of the "International Forum of Young Composers" (Kyiv, Ukraine), co-founder and art director of Ukrainian music festivals in America in Fort Worth, Texas (2008, 2012) and Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival aka UCMF in New York (2020).
Since 1995, she has been teaching at the Department of Composition at the National Music Academy of Ukraine (composition, orchestration, the course "History of Orchestral Styles", author's courses "New Music of the Late 20th - Early 21st Century" and "Newest Forms of Composer's Practice at the Turn of the 20th-21st Centuries").
She was composer-in-residence of the flute workshop at the Rheinsberg Music Academy(Germany). In 2011 and in 2023 she interned at Stanford University (CCRMA).
She gave lectures by invitation at the Rheinsberg Academy of Music , Stuttgart High school of music and fine arts(Germany), Texas Christian University ,at the City University New-York Graduate Center and at CCRMA (Stanford).
She received creative residences and scholarships in Germany, Sweden, USA.
Ludmila participated in many Ukrainian and international projects and festivals (in particular, "New Music for Harpsichord with Electronics" in Germany, "Ukrainian Music for String Quartets" in Italy , the international conference TripleCCRMAlite: 40,50,80 at Stanford University, USA and etc.; her works are performed in Ukraine, USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, France,Mexico, Israel, Poland, Finland, Moldova, Mongolia, etc. Her works have been performed by SOLI Chamber Ensemble , MAVerick ensemble, Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, Edo Frenkel, Timothy Hoft, Steve Beck , Karen Bentley Pollick (USA), Borealis Brass (Canada), Pierre-Stephane Meuge (France), Ivo Nilsson (Sweden), Werner Barho (Germany), the Orchestra of the Ukrainian Radio and Television Company, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, “KyivSoloists”, ”Kyiv Camerata” (Ukraine) and others. Actively cooperates with famous German performers, including Dresden Sinfonietta, Dirk Amrein, Matthias Lorenz, Ensemble Timbre Actuel, etc.
Recordings of her music have been released on several CDs.
She has published a number of works in the publishing houses "Music Ukraine", "Frederick Harris Publishing House" (Canada), TEM Taukay Edizioni Musicali (Italy), "Furore Verlag", "Certosa-Verlag" (Germany), "Terem-Music-Verlag" (Switzerland) and "Donemus" (Netherlands).
Since 2023 she is a member of ASCAP. Laureate of the Torneo Internationale di Musica TIM International Competition (Italy, 1999), as well as the B. Lyatoshynsky State Award (2007), V. Kosenko State Award (2014), M. Lysenko State Award (2016). Her students- laureates young composers Daniil Getman, Yana Shlyabanska, Yaroslava Snitko.
