Federico Llach - Performance Limitations, Life Cycles and Experimentation as triggers for Composition

Federico Llach will present a selection of his works and will discuss the role that conceptual statements have had in arriving at unforeseen sonic or staging outcomes for his compositions: an instalation where musical scores are shredded, a musical ping-pong game and an audiovisual exploration of contrasts in video and music. Llach will unveil some techniques used in his compositions "This Time Around" and "Umpqua" and will intiate a discussion on its aesthetic consequences.
 
Federico Llach is a composer and double bassist, musical & artistic director of the Now Hear Ensemble. He has worked in the fields of concert music, music for video and installations by creating instrumental and electronic music that ranges from the symphonic and chamber format to solo settings. His work is moved by the need of emphasizing the action of making sound, not only in its acoustic consequences, but also from a theatrical and choreographic point of view frequently supporting an underlying conceptual theme.
