Other Schemes

Given that scheme (6.33) is exact for $\lambda = 1$, there is not practical interest in exploring more elaborate schemes for the 1D wave equation. On the other hand, few systems permit such an exact solution, and the 1D wave equation is thus quite singular in this regard, and not at all representative of any other system of interest in musical acoustics. For this reason, some more complex finite difference constructions are briefly described in this section.
