Class Projects at McGill

Below are the class projects I did at McGill.

A Statistical Analysis of Timbre Descriptors on Music Instrument Classification

  • Project report for the Music Information Retrieval class (Winter 2009)
  • I did a final project on the performance evaluation of popular audio descriptors used in timbre studies. It eventually became my ICMPC 2010 paper.
  • See the report and the presentation.

Child Distress During Laceration Repair: Effectiveness of a music intervention

  • Project report for the Advanced Statistics 2 class (Winter 2009)
  • I did a final group project with 4 other people on the effectiveness music intervention during simple laceration surgeries.
  • See the presentation.

Dissimilarity of Synthesized Sounds as a Function of Timbre Descriptors

  • Project report for the Measurement of Psychological Processes class (Fall 2008)
  • The final project was an analysis of dissimilarity of synthesized timbres in terms of timbre descriptors. Previous reports in the timbre perception literature were confirmed.
  • See the report

Investigation of Instrumental Timbres in a 2-D Emotional Space

  • Project for the Perception & Cognition class (Fall 2008)
  • It was a group project with 3 others on the relationship between timbres and emotional responses.
  • See the presentation slides.

Multi-dimensional Scaling -- A Children's Story

  • The first assignment for the Measurement of Psychological Processes class (Fall 2008)
  • We were assigned to write a children's story to explain what we learn in this class. The professor really liked my story and gave an A+.
  • See the report

Class Projects at Stanford

Below are the class projects I did at Stanford.

A Study of Synchronization of Audio Data with Symbolic Data

  • Project report for the Application of Musical Information class (Spring 2007)
  • I did a literature review on audio-symbolic data synchronization.
  • See the report.

Musical Instrument Detection

  • Project report for the Machine Learning class with classmates Gautham Mysore and Greg Sell (CS229, Fall 2006)
  • We as a team tackled the musical instrument detection problem using machine learning techniques such as K-NN and SVM. We considered four instruments: piano, violin, cello and clarinet.
  • See the report.

Prediction of Sales Pattern using Adaptive Algorithm

  • Project report for the Adaptive Neural Network class (EE373B, Spring 2006)
  • I used LMS algorithm to predict the pattern of sales data. It later became a conference paper (AMCMM 2006).
  • See the report.
