Based on limits of perception, the impulse response of a reverberant room can be divided into two segments
- Early reflections = relatively sparse first echoes
- Late reverberation--so
densely populated with echoes that it is best to characterize the
response statistically.
Similarly, the frequency response of a reverberant room can be
divided into two segments.
- Low-frequency sparse distribution of resonant modes
- Modes packed so densely that they merge to form a
random frequency response with
regular statistical properties
