Guitar Pickup Processing with Damping

Audio examples for a signal processing method to make an electric guitar sound like a measured acoustic guitar are presented.

Pluck Audio Examples

Signal processing is used with a hexaphonic piezoelectric pickup on a solid body guitar to match the sound of a measured acoustic guitar. The audio examples below demonstrate a pluck of the Low E string on each guitar. The pickup signal is proportional to acceleration so it was also integrated to be proportional to the force at the bridge. An example of the integrated pickup and the pickup signal with acoustic radiation equalization are provided as reference. The fully processed example has the radiation equalization processing as well as the damping correction filtering.

Playing Audio Examples

An example of a chord progression being played with and without the processing is below.

Shifted Modes Audio Examples

The example below demonstrates the sound of the processed guitar if all the resonant modes of the modeled guitar are shifted up by a factor of 1.5.
