- yum install yum-updatesd [I was surprised to have to
install this, until I discovered that it doesn't work in Fedora 7,
as of 8/31/2007. I have it disabled in System /Administration / Services
until it works so I can run yum at the command line.
I believe the auto-updater was installed by default in earlier Fedora
releases -- I enabled update downloads in
/etc/yum/yum-updatesd.conf]
- yum install HelixPlayer
- yum install HelixPlayer-plugin
- yum install RealPlayer
- yum remove kernel-alsa-module [obsolete - started
requiring an unavailable FC5 kernel, preventing yum
update from working]
- yum remove planetccrma-core [started requiring an
unavailable FC6 kernel, preventing yum update from working]
- yum install proftpd [needed an ftp server]
- Installed VTK tarball [Visualization Tool Kit - for octaviz]
- Installed octaviz tarball [octave interface to VTK]
- yum install cmake [needed for VTK and octaviz installation]
- yum install referencer [digests PDF files and such; generates BibTeX files]
- yum install octave-devel [octave headers needed for octaviz install]
- Installed octplot tarball [handle graphics for Octave - activated by octplot_enable - works very well but freezes the machine repeatably when closing plot windows - saying octplot_disable and exiting Octave to close plots appears to be safe]
- yum install fltk-devel [needed by octplot]
- (Note that octave-graceplot
is already part of octave-forge [yet another gnuplot alternative for Octave - activated by toggle_graceplot_use])
- yum install supercollider-devel [so `pkg-config -cflags libscsynth` can be used in makefiles]
