Why Qt? Why not Java?
Java would have been a good choice for a cross platform and easy to use enviroment, but unfortunately it's still a bit too slow for real time audio. Also, the Java media classes (which are very new) are just not flexible enough for this purpose. Qt has nearly the same functionality as Java, as well as a few extras not found in Java. It is also very fast, efficient and stable.
