Max Matthews

About Max Matthews 

Max Mathews was a pioneer of computer music. He was one of the first people to make a computer make sound and he was the first to develop a hardware and software solution for controlling tones through a computer.

In the late 1980’s Max retired from Bell Laboratories, and came to CCRMA where he was an active professor emeritus. He established a lab that now bears his name and continued to teach classes, interact with students and invent instruments until his death in 2011. One of the areas of research that particularly interested him was designing new musical instruments and controllers.
