CCRMA Stanford University

Music 250 HCI Technology: Controllers

Winter 2006

Who:  Verplank, Mathews, Wilkerson, Sook Young Won
When:  Monday & Wednesday 10-12am plus one 2hr lab/week.
Where:  CCRMA Classroom, The Knoll

What:  How do the devices we use determine the style of interaction?  A series of exercises introduce sensors, circuits, micro-controllers, communication and music synthesis.  The focus will be on human performance issues such as haptics, latency, bandwidth, etc.   The term-project involves inventing and implementing an innovative input device.   Performing music can be an "expressive" activity and we hope to bring the lessons learned to the broader field of "physical interaction design" for future computer-based products.

Office Hours: Monday 2-4pm and Tuesday 1-3pm in the MaxLab
