Memoryless Nonlinearities

Memoryless or instantaneous nonlinearities are the simplest and most commonly implemented form of nonlinear element:

$$y(n) = f(x(n))$$

excluding the special case $f(x)=\alpha x$ which defines a simple linear gain of $\alpha$ .
