Songs of the Deep
On a full moon during the darkest night of the year, the moon releases a drop of its light into the ocean. This drop of light is tasked with traveling the ocean and sharing its light with the lost souls of the deep. As you give your light, hear their stories, and help them move on so that their spirits can be set free. This is a game and interactive storytelling tool for those who want to enjoy a peaceful and thoughtful environment alongside an interactive meaningful adventure. Enjoy the glow of the whales and the wisdom they entail!

Milestone 3:
Vic
For this milestone we worked on building the essential system of our final project. I worked specifically on improving the navigation and camera angles since the last project. I also added particle systems so the whales looked like they were moving in the water, I changed to text for the whales to be floating above each one, and I modified the stories to try and be a little less dark than the first time around. With that done I also wanted to expand upon the story, so I added a component where the camera gets moved to the center of the screen and the whales all get dragged in to create an inner circle that swims around the player.

Milestone 2:
Vic
For this milestone, we worked on building the prototype of our final project. The idea I have decided to pursue is an exploration of the deep dark ocean, much like a blackwater dive. However, in this situation, the player is a "moonlight sprite" (don't know if that's an actual thing but basically a small glowy fairy-like creature) who was sent to the ocean to bring light to the creatures who live in the deep and in doing so allows them to sing their songs and shine a light into their pasts or their story. In this case, they are spirit creatures who are the reincarnation of people who died.
In this adventure, you go to each creature in the ocean (currently they are all whales), and incrementally give light getting one step from their story with each increment you add till eventually their light is full and their songs can be heard as they should be!
I would like to add it so that the songs are distorted up until the last phase/increment. But overall it is a nice start.

Final project milestone 1:
Vic
Three ideas:
- My first idea is to create a program/software that listens to microphone input and then puts that information onto sheet music! As far as art goes, this isn’t exactly the most visually creative project, however, I could find ways to make it look more interesting if I wanted to. My main thinking was this would be a helpful tool for creating music in the future. It would for this project be limited to the C major scale most likely for simplicity’s sake but I could include things like a visual waveform and function spectrum to make the sound more interesting to look at visually. I could also include a pitch meter so you can see how on or off the pitch you are.
- My second idea is to create something of a “repeat after me” creation, as in you say something or play a sequence of notes then you control and watch the outcome as it continues on till it eventually dies out or completely changes. This would be an instance where there is a lineage of people or just a series of people you can place and alter their circumstances and the order of people to change how much of a phrase gets transferred to the next person. If someone’s parents aren’t all there they will get half of a phrase and then they will find that from someone else like a meaningful teacher or friend which you include, and they will provide the rest of the phrase but it will change every now and then depending on the circumstances. The idea is to use a short music statement and repetition to show how information trauma and perspectives pass from person to person, generation to generation. How sometimes it is incomplete but can be fulfilled by other people or elements in your life, and how some things can be different because of that. Just in general it would be a musical statement about society and human connection.
- My third idea is to create either an avatar forest or an under the sea 3d environment. The sounds would glow and pulse according to the music playing and the microphone input, and the elements of the environment would be interactable and would move or change like the glow-in-the-dark avatar forest if possible. This would be a mix of a music sequencer and an audio visualizer. Once more it could be under the sea as well if the assets are easier, both visual scenes would be the same glow-in-the-dark element to it and same interaction it just depends on what animations and assets are easier to find and use.
