Hw 2 Homebrew

Final Results

For my final project, I added one more sound, the buzzing of a light bulb. I start my homebrew with the sound of an office scanner and a buzzing light. The light pans back and forth, buzzing almost like a fly. The volume of this first section builds slowly. The listener should feel like they have been working a long, boring shift. I then introduce a metallic ringing which I put through a comb filter this brings us to the "drop." At this point, I use the percussive sounds of glass objects and a crowd protesting. I put the crowd noise through a comb filter cause I wanted it to sound robotic and dreamlike. To me, this section represents the thoughts and feelings and confusion we can feel while working somewhere we really do not want to be. This slowly fades out while more percussion is introduced, as well as a different version of the crowd noise. Finally, as the music approaches silence, the office scanner comes back to end the song. The piece is bookended by this mundane sound, while the more whimsical sounds are in the middle. I had fun making this piece and definitley learned a lot. Hope you all enjoy.

Milestone 1

I have slightly changed my aim for this project. I am using three new sounds, an office scanner, glass breaking, and a crowd chanting. I want to establish a scene, like someone is in an office working, and then the noise of a crowd protesting brings them outside. Right now, I have a recording of what I would call the first section, inside the office. I have been trying to get familiar with sporking, so I made a few different functions. I applied the KSChord comb filter the the crowd chanting, and made a "beat" with my other sound effects. I have a long way to go, but this rough recording is a look into what sounds I will be using and the general feel of the piece. It is very chaotic right now and needs more structure. Below are the new sounds, my recording, the ChucK code, and my readme.txt:

My goal is to figure out how to format my code better, especially with the sporking. I would like to be able to terminate some of the shreds before going into new ones, but I am having trouble with that.

Milestone 0

So far, I have recorded the sounds of glass bottles clanking, paper towels ripping and rustling, air being blown into bottles, a metallic ringing, and some background noise that I might not use. I was recording in my room when my roomate began playing guitar to a backing track. I thought it was pretty funny, so I might be use it as a quick introduction to my composition where my "non-musical" sounds overtake the traditional "musical" background noise. The following is a list of the sounds I will likely use. I have some duplicates, but these are the best ones so far.

In terms of ChucK, I have set up a basic program to load files into an array with SndBuf. Below I have attatched a recording of a bottle clanking in a loop with sin modulated resonance filter.
