  • Sound Logo - Black Head Students' Network

This sound logo was designed for the Black Head Students’ Network, and organisation which I founded in 2018, and currently run. The organisation is a Network of current and former Black Head Students (equivalent of high school student body presidents) across the United Kingdom.

The first section of the sound logo consist of 12 pitches, derived from notes in the A Major pentatonic scale. Each pitch represents a founding member of the organisation. The pitch played by the Blit oscillator is decided at random. These random pitches, which still have a total center of A Major, represents the founding members before the organisation was founded. All 12 individuals were separate, but were still like-minded and had a similar vision, give they held the same position in their respective schools.

The next section of the piece is a IV-I plagal cadence, also known as an Amen Cadence. Each chord has 12 pitches, again with each pitch representing a founding member. Once again, this uses 12 Blit oscillators. The rich chords and strong, glorious resolution represents the 12 founding members coming together as a collective form the organisation.

At the end of the logo, we return to the 12 random pitches for a short period of time. This is a reminder that the work of the organisation is not finished, there are still pitches in the same key (representing like minded potential members) who are outside the chord, who can add to and contribute to the collective body.
