---README--- “BASEMENT” This composition was inspired by the uncertainty of life; you never quite know where life will take you… but it is in the unknown that one can find great beauty. This composition employs exclusively sounds I recorded in the basement of Green Library. It was on my way down to the basement that I recorded my first sounds for this piece— the mechanical movements of the old, janky elevator. Once in the basement, I used security cameras, keycard panels, printers, and a couple other things as sound sources. I was attracted to the mechanical movements and unpredictable nature of these sound sources. In ChucK, I processed and arranged these samples, having particular fun adjusting the sounds at the sample level… going to the extreme and then pulling back (adopted this mentality from Ge). At each stage of the process, I was reminded of the power of experimentation, for by doing so I was able to create some unexpectedly cool sounds. Enjoy :)
