During my 2011 "Virtual Music Week" Artist-in-Residency at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, I was invited to direct a performance of the UNO Mobile Phone Orchestra. For that concert I repurposed Smule's MadPad application with a customized source code, to drive a performance of Terry Riley's minimalist classic In C
In C Variations prompts performers to download pre-recorded MadPad Instrument sets, each featuring a series of cells from Riley's composition. As an ensemble, the mobile phone orchestra then performs the work to the standard metronomic pulse.
