Cadence is a simple repeat-after-me style drumming game. The computer will play a drum beat twice, and then you play it back by tapping the beat, in time, using any letter key.
Choose between four difficulties: easy, medium, hard, and ninja.
Each beat consists of a one-measure long drum beat followed by one measure of rest. After the measure of rest, it's your turn to play. Make sure to stay in time!

The inspiration for this program came from the LSJUMB (Stanford Band) drumline. One part of the drumline audition process is a game called "Repeat After Me" in which the drum section leader will play a beat twice, and the auditionee has to it them back, keeping time. The auditionee has never seen or heard these beats before, so it's a really interesting exercise in listening. The beats get progressively harder, and auditionees are graded based on how many levels they pass.
The program code is split into three parts: a Brain that manages all of the game logic and loads MIDI files, an Audio part that handles the audio setup and callback function, and a Graphics part that handles all graphics rendering. Cadence is built on top of STK, the Synthesis Tool Kit, for all software instrument sounds, as well as the MCD API for reading MIDI files.
