Here is how and why:   Two flame fronts burn the fuel twice as fast.  Combustion efficiency is increased, because much more of the fuel in the chamber is burned.  Combustion forces are now symmetrical, which means the piston rings seal better and there is less piston to cylinder friction.  Detonation from higher compression ratios is either eliminated or drastically reduced.  Horsepower and fuel economy increase.  Perhaps this is why Ducati is now making use of this technology.
