Orbits - Nancy Rico-Mineros

An outer space visualizer!

Reflection

Designing this visualizer given the time constraint and limitations in terms of my programming ability in ChucK, was the most challenging part of this project. However, compared to my first milestone, I feel much more satisfied with the final result of my project. Compared to when I worked on my first milestone, I had a lot of fun this time around. The pressure went away when I realize I don't have to make an exact replica. I decided to play with textures with the planets so I ended up turning Pluto (yes I am counting Pluto as a planet) and Earth into disco balls.

I made the music that follows the visualizer in ChucK. Just given the melancholic nature of the music, it shaped the way I viewed my visualizer and how much I wanted to add to it. It would have been cool to play with the waveform and have it turn different colors or even have the planets bounce around but once I added the music, to me my visualizer felt complete. One of the most challenging aspects was figuring out when I was complete. I had so many ideas for the visuals before I even worked on the music for it but after I added the music to me my visualizer felt complete. It's beautiful as it is.

I mentioned to both Tristian and Nick that I reached my moment of sublime seeing my final product. My concept for my visualizer changed so much throughout the past 2 weeks. I love seeing how my visualizer alongside the music developed into becoming what it is today. My visualizer came from a conversation my brother and I had talking about no matter how far we were there is comfort knowing that we both live on the same planet and we both see the same stars and wake up to the same sun. The music came to be as I reflected on how small we are compared to the universe we live in. Although very melancholic, it was a beautiful reflection.

Acknowledgements

I want to personally take the time to thank Kunwoo, Andrew, Ge, and Nick for helping me in all of my ChucK and ChuGL needs. A personal shoutout to Gray, Rochelle, Tristan, and Tae Kyu for telling me to take a break from ChuGLing during the Whale Trip :)
