Mike Wilson's Blog

I was a MA/MST student at Stanford's Center for Computer Research in Music and Accoustics.

This is my weblog.

I've completed my course registration. You can track which classes
I'm taking from the courses section of my main page. I'm sticking
with the requirements for first term. I'll see if I can add or audit
something small in addition once the start of the term gets closer.

There is now an RSS feed available. I've never managed one before, so
if you subscribe to it and have any comments please let me know!

A few notes on the technology behind this blog, for those interested:

I wrote a couple of shell scripts to take text files and wrap them
with html markup. Pretty straightforward. There were already a few
parts of the script that felt cumbersome. If I get much fancier I
will probably end up rewriting the scripts in something like Python.

I initially tried using latex2html, but it looked like it would be a
bit of work to get it to do what I wanted. More work than just
writing my own simple tool. For now I don't really lose anything by
not using it. When I need to display formulas I believe I can do it
with MathML.

On the other hand, it would be nice to have more practice with LaTeX
syntax. It's been years since I've had to write anything in it. I'm
sure I'll get plenty of chances to practice once the homework starts.
If I ever need to publish a book online I'll probably look into
latex2html again.

It's nice to have some time to do silly stuff like this.
