Homework 3: Kaleidoscope

This piece is meant to embody some of the feelings one might experience when inside a kaleidoscope. There are two distinct segments: a discovery phase and a experimentation phase. The first part involves exploring the capabilities of the kaleidoscope, signified by the disjointed noises and rough feel to the "turning" noises. The second segment has more of a smooth, directional feel to it, with the ratchet noise (taken from freesound.org) signifying a shift in the kaleidoscope pattern. The listener is taken for a spatial ride through the kaleidoscope until being grounded back in reality with the final word.
This was made using granular synthesis in ChucK and all sounds were either recorded by me (saying the word kaleidoscope, generating the tones in ChucK) or taken from freesound.org. Late-stage processing was done in Audacity.
Thanks and hope you enjoy it!
