8:00-11:00 pm, CSW Special Session: Into the Curriculum
The CSW will present a special session focusing on the integration of feminist scholarship, including the music of women composers, into the music curriculum. The first part of the program will consist of short presentations of different categories of courses within the curriculum:

  1. graduate music seminars in feminism and/or women's studies;
  2. analytical techniques courses (e.g., set-theory, Schenkerian analysis, or counterpoint)
  3. upper-level topics courses (e.g., music of a single composer or time period)
  4. lower-level theory and musicianship.
Each presentation will address the following issues:
  1. What feminist literature is considered necessary and/or appropriate for such a course?
  2. How is this feminist scholarship integrated into the course syllabus and presented in the classroom?
  3. How are these feminist perspectives received by students and colleagues?
Following the presentations, we will break into individual discussion groups for each course category. These smaller groups will provide the opportunity for the exchange of ideas and materials for those teaching similar types of courses.
