( A piece for sounds of bowed resonant bodies, piano and more)
This piece is a hyperbole of a moving image of chasing a
bee in the wild. A continuum, -not so predictable-, of
flying, stopping, and what-about of flowers and
plants. Swirls, circular shifts, motion and multiformity,
delineate a tale inasmuch as to where bees have
stepped. Overwhelmingly bees depict dedication,
determination and allegory for a composition rationale. If
nature insinuates on heuristics, tracing steps this way,
illuminates for tying and untangling knots and strings that
expose meaning, and outlines a concept to be used as subject
in a work deliberately.
On its structure, Chasing the bee follows a
familiar template consisting of contrasting sets (just need
to tie each knot between each set). Likewise, micro tuned
piano samples, as well as sound sources emanating from
acoustical (physical) models of bowed tuned bars beside
bowed glass, conduce to augmentation or attenuation among
elements in the piece. There are sequences of contrasting
pitched sounds and elongated sounds that engage listeners to
untangle fixtures on the piece because of cognizance from a
moving image. Besides spectra, this piece also carries on
the idea of sound source motion as the listening space
becomes part of the work.
This composition is also conceived as a stand alone or as a
``music-minus-one'' work, suitable for more
instruments on a live performance. An open score of
this piece is available for one or more performers including
Viola. Actual composing material and ideas for Chasing
the bee, trail those of
TikiTik(2014) a piece for Viola and
teleperformance, also caressing concepts of
music-minus-one. TikiTik was premiered by
violist Elena Fuentes on a live tele concert
(TeleMamm (2015)) at the
Medellin Museum of Modern Art.
Chasing the bee is a tribute to composer Fabio
Fuentes, Elena's father, a great friend, musician,
colleague and educator. He was an advocate of new music, and
for more than thirty years a visionary of computers as
musical instruments. Paraphrasing his thoughts: Music is
far from mechanical, music is more like aroma on the wild,
giving sensations of liveliness that go from sound to music
in a multi dimensional sphere.

Contour and structure outline shades and constrasts of tones, many of symmetrical shapes. Consequently, there be clusters all around.

Super Stereo UHJ version of "Chasing the
Bee". This piece is conceived as a thorough stand alone
or an open work for further instrumentation, Ambisonics, in
addition to in-situ or telematic performance.
