This document aims to an introduction and overview of elements for working and thinking about interaction design. In particular it focuses on interfaces for new musical instruments as well as development for applications in the field of electronic arts. This text touches upon various instances related to human-machine interaction in addition to tactile physical interfaces for controlling gestures and continuous processing for manipulating, sound, music and other kinds of signals in real-time. Here we present a chronology of haptics and interaction design as well as how musical instruments have developed their interaction over time. The music case and paradigms might as well serve as an inspiration or resource for other domains in the arts. This document shows several examples of controllers, haptic devices, and generic interfaces which can be further developed into a desired aesthetic level in a project or proposal. There is an overview of Embedded System and Micro-Controllers as well as an introduction to various sensors which might be used for tactile control. Among various examples there would be applications using embedded systems like the AVRMinior Wiringand their connection to software packages like Pd and Processing. Most of research and work presented here is the result of various courses taught at CCRMA, Princeton, San Jose State and the HCI group at Stanford. This author is very grateful to Bill Verplank, Max Mathews, Scott Wilson, Michael Gurevich, Wendy Ju, Matt Wright and others for their vision, help, assistance and support on this subject matter and more.


El objetivo en este documento es ofrecer los elementos e introducción al concepto de háptica y su papel en interfaces hombre-maquina además de interfaces físicas que involucran el tacto para control de música, sonido y procesos continuos en tiempo real. Se presentan el contexto histórico de interfaces que involucran háptica. Una cronología referenciando principalmente el control en instrumentos musicales tradicionales sin el enfoque tradicional del sonido. También se muestran esquemas de interfaces musicales o genéricas pero funcionales además de una introducción con estos elementos al diseño de nuevas objetos, dispositivos y sistemas físicos materiales. Se hará una presentación a la electrónica con microprocesadores y una mirada a sensores que se manipulan con el tacto. Entre los ejemplos se presentarán algoritmos para utilizar en sistemas ensamblados tales como los AVRMiniy Wiringmas aplicaciones de interconexión de estos sistemas a programas como Processing o Pd. La mayoría de investigación y trabajos presentados acá son resultado de varios cursos en realizado en CCRMA, Princeton, San Jose State y el grupo HCI de Stanford en Estados Unidos.
