Subject Matter: Electro-acoustic Music

Turning back to our subject of electro-acoustic music in Colombia, It can be seen that for historical, and traditional matters, most audiences have been isolated from this genre. Nevertheless as stated earlier on this article, only a handful of composers paid attention on composing using electronics. Ensayo Electronico was the first electro-acoustic piece to be composed in Colombia in 1965 by Fabio Gonzalez-Zuleta (b. 1920) and engineer Guillermo Diaz. The piece was produced and recorded at the Colombian National Radio Broadcasting studios in Bogota. It used tone generators and the tape manipulation techniques of the Cologne studio. Another prominent figure of contemporary music in the country Blas Aterthua (b. 1933), and during a workshop in Buenos Aires, Argentina composed Sirigma (1966) which is a piece for tape using recorded piano sounds, processed also by basic tape manipulation techniques. In 1968 Jacqueline Nova (1935-1975), produced Oposicion-Fusion. This piece was also realized with the composer at residence in Estudio de Fonologia in Buenos Aires. The most important electro-acoustic piece during the 1970's was Cantos de la Creacion de la Tierra (1972), also by Nova. This piece was composed using tape manipulation techniques, wave distortion techniques, as well as filtering on voices of Colombian Indians. In 1975, Francisco Zumaque (dates N/A) composed his first electronic etude called Mexcalito. This is a composition for traditional instruments, live electronics and tape.
