Introduction

Electro-acoustic music in Colombian music compositions appeared as early as in the 1960's as part of experimental works, sound tests, and homework for some outstanding composers in the country. It was not until 1968, when electronic sounds were accepted as an art form and used in few compositions by a handful of artists and composers, namely Jacqueline Nova (1935-1975) et al. After her death most Colombian composers and musicologists regarded this medium as an isolated event with few consequences among the musical community. Most activities were restricted to broadcasting classic electro-acoustic compositions by radio stations mainly in Bogota. It was not until 1989 during the International Contemporary Music Festival, when few composers and musicians who have been active during the "Nova" years decided to dynamically support and revive electro-acoustic from its static state it had for years. Since then there have been various activities promoting this kind of music which range from compositions to workshops, acousmatic cycles to research and festivals.
