This research work deals with the creation of intermedia material and it has been designed for piano performance. It is based on the idea of flying musically through an existing virtual scenario. The movements across the scene are controlled directly by the pianist while performing. A dialog between music and visual dimension is created, allowing the interaction between them by means of visual and musical messages. In some occasions, the music is guiding the visual dimension and in other cases, the visual dimension drives the music in a specific direction. The performer can easily create his own journey while composing or improvising. This research work explores the relationship between music and spatial movements.

The main idea of this intermedia work is to experiment with the relation between 'musical movement' and 'spatial movement'. Geometric lines are used to translate music gestures and vice-versa. As example of this, a music rest can be expressed in different ways using a geometric rest. Lines have some common features which can be appreciated along the workpiece: they are not perfectly straight, they are close to horizontality or verticality. Some simple mathematical algorithms have been used to create the visual effects. A programming interface has been created, which allows the user to create geometry and manipulate it 'on the fly' while performing. Some computer graphic techniques based on the manipulation of parametric surfaces in real time have been used to create dynamic effects and realistic scenarios.

Research leading to the development of an intermedia performance Counterlines - a duet for Disklavier and Wacom Cintiq. In the work both performers generate audiovisual gestures that relate to each other contrapuntally. Using Max/MSP/Jitter and visual projection the pianist generates graphic elements by playing on the keyboard and the graphic performer generates piano notes by drawing. The research deals among else with issues of intermedia composition, performance, mapping, causality and real-time generation of graphics.

The basic idea of this performance is to relate spatial representations to sound and viceversa. By means of a pen display, the performer explores a two dimensional scenario in which sound and sketches are closely related. This performance is an artistic variation of an original research project, which consists on the use of sound feedback techniques to assist visually impaired people in the recognition of curves shapes. 'Sound gestures' can be easily identified with 'hand gestures'.

The term Intermedia relates the interdisciplinary activities that occur between genres, allowing performers and composers to create Intermedia work such as: computer art, new media art, visual art, sound art, performance art, electronic art, sound installations and others.

The main purpose of his research at the Stanford Intermedia Performance Lab is to explore the relationship between visual art and music. Some of his projects study the connection between “musical movement” and “spatial movement”.

The majority of the geometry used in his audiovisual compositions is based on computational graphic techniques which use parametric curves and surfaces, helping the composer in the creation of scenarios and dynamic effects.

His music work uses traditional acoustic piano sound, which is enhanced using some visual effects that allow the audience to visualize the music and to sonidify the virtual scenarios.

Art and technology are the best combination to produce intermedia work. Computer tool such as MAX/MSP or Processing have been used to create the intermedia material and to define the interaction between the performer, the computer and other devices used.

Again, the idea of this intermedia work is to experiment with the relation between 'musical movement' and 'spatial movement'. This time, circles have been used to show this relationship.
