Howdy
One of the most beautiful sounds in 20th century music is the slow, ringing swoon of a metal bar draped across 6 to 10 strings, as it slides up and down to manipulate frequencies. I've always loved the sound so popular in country music, but also equally suited for any style needing a sort of sustained pscyhedelia. A pedal steel guitar is probably my favorite, but a lap steel or dobro sounds pretty nice too. What is it though that gives this sound such a unique character, seperating it the sound of a standard guitar played with a slide?
