Homework #1 - Calculating the distance between two boats

From the wav file, I found the inter-arrival time between the two hydrophones
to be 12 ms. 
 
Speed of sound in air = 1 ft/ms
Speed of sound in water = 5 x 1 ft/ms = 5 ft/ms

Distance between the two boats = Speed of sound in water x Inter-arrival time
                               = 5 ft/ms x 12 ms = 60 ft

In meters this would be:
60 ft x .3048 m/ft = 18.288 meters  

Thus, the distance between the two boats is about 18 meters.
