For my homebrew project, I began with the idea of creating some sort of dreamscape with different sounds to
represent different memories and environments (or memory-environments). I began to really have fun with it,
and a lot of the sounds came from unexpected results when I was manipulating my recordings. It was a combination of
chance with how my samples happened to turn out and the fact that I tend to have vivid nightmares that I ended up
creating a dreamscape that starts out somewhat idyllic and ends up becoming a nightmare. I developed my ideas further
from the second milestone, so this version works with the more organizedsound patterns I thought my previous versions
were lacking. I hope you enjoy it!
Preliminary Ideas
For my Homebrew project, I have been considering creating something to do with soundscapes, spacialization, and as a theme, memory.
I was thinking about a general descent into unconsciousness or drifting through a dream-like state (such as drifting through/falling asleep or
even dying while slipping through different locations
within ones memory.
Right now I have a few general landscape sounds and some white-noise sounding samples - whichever direction
I choose to go in, for a "descent", I would like to begin with clearer, higher pitched sounds which gradually progress into deeper and more
muddled sounds/soundscapes where the brew will eventually end. I hope to work with different recorded and downloaded sounds to make
a variety of sound environments that can be either literal and recognizable as a "real world" sound or more abstract ones that might
be droning tones or music that sounds like it is deteriorating over time. I want to work with sporking for getting interesting patterns
across samples with different levels of resonance and reverb, etc. I am not sure exactly what I will do with spacialization, but giving
a sense of a change in vertical location is something that is on the table for me if it is technically possible for me to achieve within
the time limits for the assignment. There is still a lot as far as ideation/overall theme that I might change at this point, but I am
looking forward to presenting what I have this following week. My recorded chuck file at the bottom of the list contains a few of the samples
and effects I am thinking about using but in no particular order.
