From the Lakota
To the North
Mother
Sun may your light shine on him and your warmth comfort him in the chill of the
night
To
the South
Father
Earth
Use
your strength to guide him and your wisdom to lead him
To
the East
May
your creatures large and small help him, through his journey, the deer who
walks softly on the ground, the owl with all his wisdom
To
the West
Your
forefathers take your hand and show you the enlightened trail,
To happiness.

Lord
God, through your mercy
Those
who have lived in faith
Find
eternal peace
Bless
this grave, and
Send your angels to watch over it.
Forgive
the sins of our brother
Whose
body we bury here,
Welcome
him into your presence
And
with your saints let him rejoice in you forever.
I
would like all who are gathered here to join hands and with me recite
The Lord's Prayer.
(Three rifles fire three times over the grave.
Taps is played twice, second from a distance. The flag is folded.
The flag and three spent rounds are presented.)
Almighty father, we commend unto you our brother Anthony, that he
may rest in eternal happiness. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,
(Sand is thrown onto the casket.)
Take
his body to the earth from whence it came...
Amen.
(The casket is lowered. Mourners throw flowers
into the grave.)
