There are three systems in the prelude and four systems in the fugue. These files are the primary representation files for the music in SCORE -- i.e, these files are all that you need to save in order to reprint the music or make modifications or corrections in the future. Alternately, you could save the music by pages, but especially with a small composition, by system is more convenient. Page 1 contains information from PEACHA.MUS through PEACHD.MUS and so on. These files contain the explicit positioning of the music on the page. These files can be read by SCORE as easily as the MUS versions. Also, the PMX versions are more readily transferable to other programs or for storage on paper. You can write an external program to SCORE which modifies the data in these files and then import them back into SCORE for editing/printing (or you could process directly from the binary MUS forms of the data).
