ChucKu 1: This ChucKu is inspired by both the simple example of creating a sine wave in ChucK and by the THX Deep Note. In this ChuckU, I create two sine waves of related frequencies, which are taken from the list of frequencies used in the deep note. This ChucKu sounds a lot like playing two notes simultaneously on an organ. One difficulty I found in constructing this ChucKu was determining which gain values to use for each sine wave. After some trial and error, I found that using a gain value of 0.9 for the lower frequency wave and 0.4 for the high frequency wave made the two wave sounds flatter each other the most. ChucKu 2: I usually associate haiku's and poetry with peacefulness, so I chose to use a peaceful instrument for this ChuKu, the mandolin. First, one mandolin plays at a given frequency. Then another mandolin joins with a relative frequency for the final pluck. The swift change between the mandolins and the notes they play sound as if this sound is meant to present something, just as poetry presents an idea or expression. Sound Logo: I decided to create a sound logo for myself than can be played when I wake up every morning. This sound logo is the anthem for a new day, and its manifesto reflects my own inner monologue of my mental struggle to get out of my comfy bed in the early morning. My sound logo has three parts. The first part of the sound, the exposition, includes two sections of mandolin plucks of different frequencies/notes. In the first section, each note is played for an entire second and at a relatively low volume. This is the "peaceful" section of the sound logo, meant to sweetly and slowly wake you up from sleep. In the second section, the plucks are played at lower pitches, a faster pace, and with a higher gain, doing away with the peaceful tone of the previous section and intensifying as the need to get up increases. Additionally, I tend to start hating my alarm sound after I hear the same thing ever morning, so the plucks in both sections of the exposition are played randomly from a selection of three frequency/pitch options, allowing the alarm sound to be different each morning. After the exposition, the climax of the sound logo is comprised of more mandolin plucks. These plucks start at the lowest frequency option from the exposition and increase in frequency until the highest option is reached. This section is to provide a last bit of motivation to get up and out of bed, encouraging you to rise up as the notes do. Lastly, the resolution of the sound logo is a confident playing of two chords. First, a chord is played using three lower-frequency notes, and it is immediately followed by the same chord played at higher frequencies. This portion is meant to play when you finally get up, signaling your first of many victories of the day, getting out of bed.
