--------------------------------- Homebrew: --------------------------------- "Requiem for Caffeine" ***To run "Requiem for Caffeine," Make sure the 'homebrew.ck' file and ALL of the included .wav files are in the same program, then run 'homebrew.ck'*** The source material for this piece was recorded entirely using the iPhone "Voice Memos" app. All sounds were recorded in my kitchen. The individual clips are: 1) A pot of coffee brewing in a Mr. Coffee drip brewer 2) The glass carafe being filled from the faucet 3) Coffee beans being poured into a metal coffee grinder 4) Coffee beans being ground 5) A single coffee bean clinking into the grinder 6) Myself slurping coffee 7) A sigh of contentment The inspiration behind this composition was the experience of waking up in the morning and having to make coffee without first having had a cup of coffee to wake up. It begins with taking the first sip of coffee, then moves backwards in time until the moment I wake up in the morning. The sounds begin with a solid basis in reality with no manipulation, then move gradually toward the "fantastic" as I portray the chaotic/disorganized/incoherent state of my mind before coffee. In addition to delay and reverb effects, sounds are slowed down, sped up, pitch-shifted, and played in reverse.
