------------------------------------------- Music 220B Final Project: Computer-mediated, Audio-visual Work Author: Cara Turnbull ---------------------------------- "Contemporary Performance Art for Meta-Bass" *** To run perform this piece, unzip the folder (ensuring that the .wav file and the .ck file are in the same folder), connect your GameTrak controller, and hit "add shred." *** This piece is a re-performance of a piece from my Bachelor of Music senior recital at Ithaca College in 2016. The source material is my recital performance of "Joke," the first movement of a piece called Sei Studi by Stefano Scodanibbio. In this "meta-performance," I transform a contemporary composition employing extended techniques on solo double bass into contemporary performance art using ChucK and a GameTrak controller. Rather playing the score itself on an acoustic instrument, I utilize the GameTrak to mimic of the motions of bass performance while using granular synthesis techniques to "play" the previously-recorded performance. -------------------------- Performance Instructions: ------------------- Add the shred to the ChucK VM. Open the video enclosed in the .zip file. While in the video player use the spacebar to begin the audio and visual aspects simultaneously. At your own discretion, use the GameTrak button to proceed to Movement 2 and activate the LiSa. Control grain position, position randomness, and grain rate using the three axes of the GameTrak. When ready, use the GameTrak to proceed to Movement 3. LiSa controls remain the same in Movement 3. GameTrak button now triggers playback of random clips from the source material. Piece ends on its own when the source material ends a single playthrough. ------------------- -------------------------- ---------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
