Ain't Too Proud To Beg
Notes:
Mix 1
The assignment was to mix this, do some gating, efx, la la la. So I threw this mix down, which Sandy G. said sounded like the Phil Spectre mix (wall
of sound reverb?). I gated the kick and the snare and the toms a little with the Mackie 8 bus mixer's gates. I compressed the kick and snare with the
Mackie digital 8 bus compressors. Threw a little low end eq boost on the bass, cut some low mid (around 360-400 Hz) on the vocals and guitar, added a
rich plate reverb from the bad to the bone Lexicon reverb, compressed the lead vocal with the 1176 at 12:1, threw the reverb on all the vocals, the
snare, the guitar, and the piano a little, and boom there you have it. Did it all in 44.1 and mixed it straight to a CD-R then used Audacity to trim
the front and back.
There's some SERIOUS hiss at the beginning of this mix - *shrug* not sure where that came from.
That's all she really wrote folks.
This is another mix that I did with Sandy. She helped me with some math,
I helped her with this. On this one, we used no outboard gear. Just the
gates and compressors and reverbs in the Mackie mixer. Also, I went ahead
and used the Waves L2 limiter when we recorded to CD-R to push it to
mostly zeros. I actually like this mix better I think.
