Introduction

Keeper of the Nocturne is an abstract musical game that takes place in an unbounded house known as "the Nocturne".

The house is filled with Residents, and you are their Keeper. They don't know where they are, nor where they came from, and you've been asking questions yourself.

You and all the Residents teeter on the edge of sanity. They have stories, personalities, inner demons and outward behavior. You are their Keeper. If they lose their sanity, so do you.

Musical Gameplay

The Nocturne is a grid of areas. Each area is a 3x3 space with its own geometry. Each space can contain a room, and each room can contain residents.

When the Keeper enters a room, the Residents in the room all sing, creating a Chord. Some are cheerful, but most are melancholy. They all feel alone.

On command, individual Residents can follow the Keeper into different rooms, altering the Chords they make. By rearranging Residents, the Keeper becomes a composer.

Stories

As you explore the Nocturne, you will meet Residents, observe them and overhear them.

Residents will discuss their lives and the lives of other Residents. You will hear them Chatter about who feels ill, who is missing, who is separated.

As the Keeper, it is your duty to right the wrongs and the evils this place creates. You must show your Residents that they aren't really alone.

There are no explicitly defined instructions for how to right these wrongs, but if you listen to the Chatter, the Residents will tell you. Also, mind the Carpeted Room. Residents tend to feel safer there.
