HOWDY!!! The PHISEM project does pseudo-physical modeling synthesis of particle-type sounds. It is part of the larger umbrella project called Physically Oriented Library of Interactive Sound Effects (PhOLISE, a word play on "Foley" sound effects) You just heard some shaking sounds, but the scores don't do them justice. This is best experienced with a controller or at least a GUI. cd to the PRCode/stk-4.1.3/projects/demo directory now living in your home/PRCode directory, and type: Shakers.bat Wiggle the sliders. Cool, huh? There are many settings that cause things to clip. Just keep the Shake Energy slider near the lower end when you're making changes to things like the number of objects or the damping. Have fun. Shake, shake, shake... _______________________________________________ Exercise: Go find a shaking/scraping/rubbing sound that you want to model. Use snd and/or SMS to get out the main resonances, guess at the number of objects and system damping. Find the existing sound in the Shakers instrument that sounds closer to your target than any other. Hack that one to realize your new sound. I am working on analysis tools, that will do this process automatically (parametric sampling!!). Nite nite.
