CCRMA presents Marco Fusi and Patricia Alessandrini performing nostalgica utopica futura in the Bing Studio.

In a special performance at Stanford University, Luigi Nono's La lontananza nostalgica utopica futura will be presented by violinist Marco Fusi and Patricia Alessandrini, who will perform the electronics. They will also perform their own homage to Nono, in the form of a brief improvised prelude, entitled Proximity, distance. This performance and its prelude were developed during a residency at the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC).

Hearing Seminar

Teaching robots to hear is important and hard. This is true whether you are talking about an arm, a walking robot, or a car. Robots move, generating their own sounds. We wish for our machines to have a full 360 degrees of situational awareness. They are often in close proximity to humans, so the stakes are higher. And we never have enough microphones or a big enough baseline.

At next **Tuesday’s** Hearing Seminar, Prof. Christine Evers from Southhampton will be talking about embodied audio, or how to teach (noisy) robots how to hear. The last time I saw Dr. Evers, she won a best presentation award, and I’m looking forward to hearing her perspective on how to help our machine (overloads :-) hear better.

Join us for the world premiere and watch party of In Coherence, presented by CCRMA MA/MST '24!

"In Coherence" is an audiovisual collage representing the incredibly varied musical interests and talents of CCRMA's 2024 MA/MST cohort. Each artist completed a minute-long audiovisual piece, given only the last six seconds of a previous artist's work for inspiration. While each artist's gesture may appear in coherent at first glance, this sequential juxtaposition places them "in coherent" conversation with each other, a celebration of creative and interdisciplinary audiovisual expression.
