In audio signals, the phase is a key component that contributes to one-to-many mapping, particularly in vocoder tasks. However, current audio generative models often overlook this aspect. In this seminar, we will discuss the application of domain knowledge from digital signal processing to deep generative modeling, including concepts such as the Fourier transform, Jensen-Shannon sampling, Nyquist frequency, quantization, and others.</p><div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-cost"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> FREE </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-intended-audience"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Open to the Public </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/junhyeok-lee-jhu-differentiable-phase-augmentation-speech-synthesis" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Fri, 03 Jan 2025 22:37:01 +0000 soohyun 6809 at https://ccrma.stanford.edu Gradients of Control | Robert Fleitz Piano Recital https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/gradients-of-control-robert-fleitz-piano-recital <div class="field field-type-date field-field-event-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Date:&nbsp;</div> <span class="date-display-single">Wed, 01/08/2025 - <span class="date-display-start">7:30pm</span><span class="date-display-separator"> - </span><span class="date-display-end">9:00pm</span></span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-location"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Location:&nbsp;</div> CCRMA Stage </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Event Type:&nbsp;</div> Concert </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="133" height="200" alt="" src="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/user/dozier/robert_fleitz_photo.jpg?1735952428" /> </div> </div> </div> The relationship between composer, performer, audience, and score is a delicate and malleable web&mdash;not only in these agents' realities, but in the perceptions that are placed on each of them by the other. These imagines versions, shaped by tradition and context, blur the boundaries between intention and interpretation. In this recital, the solo piano becomes a focal point for exploring how composers and performers negotiate control over musical materials. The scores on this program move from improvisation, to control, and back again; questioning what it means to have &quot;freedom&quot; in a work of composed music, and inviting the listener to examine their own role in the process of meaning- and memory-making.<br /> <br /> The program features <strong>works by</strong> Camila Agosto, Manaka Kataoka, Linda Leimane, Rytis Mažulis, Jeffrey Mumford, Lou Sheppard, Julie Zhu and Raimonda Žiūkaitė<br /> <br /><div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-cost"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> FREE </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-intended-audience"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Open to the Public </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/gradients-of-control-robert-fleitz-piano-recital" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Sat, 04 Jan 2025 01:18:11 +0000 dozier 6810 at https://ccrma.stanford.edu “What am I doing with my music?”: Musical hybridity in material, time, and life https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/what-am-i-doing-with-my-music-musical-hybridity-in-material-time-and-life <div class="field field-type-date field-field-event-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Date:&nbsp;</div> <span class="date-display-single">Wed, 01/08/2025 - <span class="date-display-start">5:30pm</span><span class="date-display-separator"> - </span><span class="date-display-end">6:45pm</span></span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-location"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Location:&nbsp;</div> CCRMA Classroom (Knoll 217) </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Event Type:&nbsp;</div> Guest Colloquium </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="133" height="200" alt="" src="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/user/walksmit/robert_fleitz_photo.jpg?1736289695" /> </div> </div> </div> We live in a fragmented world, where algorithms both shape and narrow notions of genre and style, yet paradoxically grant us unprecedented access to a vast multiplicity of musical forms.
