They played vowel-like sounds to cats and recorded from a large number of auditory nerve fibers. The assembled data tells us a LOT about how the auditory system works. I&rsquo;d like to use this Hearing Seminar to honor Eric and his data, and tell his story about how the auditory system works.<br /><div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-cost"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> FREE </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-intended-audience"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Open to the Public </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/tour-of-auditory-system-courtesy-of-eric-young" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Wed, 21 Feb 2024 21:31:02 +0000 malcolm 6671 at https://ccrma.stanford.edu Synthetic Realms https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/synthetic-realms <div class="field field-type-date field-field-event-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Date:&nbsp;</div> <span class="date-display-single">Thu, 02/22/2024 - <span class="date-display-start">7:30pm</span><span class="date-display-separator"> - </span><span class="date-display-end">9:00pm</span></span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-location"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Location:&nbsp;</div> CCRMA Stage / <a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/live">CCRMA LIVE</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Event Type:&nbsp;</div> Concert </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="200" height="129" alt="" src="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/user/cobasica/synthetic_realms.jpeg?1705036993" /> </div> </div> </div> Join us for a combined program of audiovisual compositions by Constantin Basica and Andrew A. In various configurations of upright bass, amplifier feedback, effects pedals and looping, the duo explores dichotomies, with a side of pristine acoustic duets and another of visceral noise, where the sonic boundaries between the instruments dissolve and obscure. Kidambi employs a distinct vocal effects pedal, meeting&nbsp;Stewart&nbsp;in his amplifier-centered sonic universe. Combining their unique improvised vocabularies which draw from free jazz, noise, rock, Indian music and Black music, their raw chemistry is apparent in their shape-shifting improvisations.<p><a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/amirtha-kidambi-luke-stewart" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Fri, 12 Jan 2024 05:08:58 +0000 cobasica 6638 at https://ccrma.stanford.edu CCRMA on a Bing https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/ccrma-on-a-bing <div class="field field-type-date field-field-event-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Date:&nbsp;</div> <span class="date-display-single">Fri, 02/02/2024 - <span class="date-display-start">7:30pm</span><span class="date-display-separator"> - </span><span class="date-display-end">9:00pm</span></span> </div> <div class="field-item even"> <div class="field-label-inline"> Date:&nbsp;</div> <span class="date-display-single">Sat, 02/03/2024 - <span class="date-display-start">7:30pm</span><span class="date-display-separator"> - </span><span class="date-display-end">9:00pm</span></span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-location"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Location:&nbsp;</div> <a href="live.stanford.edu/venues/bing-concert-hall">Bing Concert Hall</a> / <a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/live">CCRMA LIVE</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Event Type:&nbsp;</div> Concert </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="126" height="200" alt="" src="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/user/cobasica/man_on_a_bing_0.jpg?1705033704" /> </div> </div> </div> <div>CCRMA kicks off its 50th Anniversary Concerts with two programs of works by students, faculty, staff, and alumni in the Bing Concert Hall.<br /> </div> <p>FREE and Open to the Public &nbsp;| &nbsp;<a href="https://live.stanford.edu/venues/bing-concert-hall">In Person</a>&nbsp;+&nbsp;<a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/live">Livestream</a></p><p><a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/ccrma-on-a-bing" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Fri, 12 Jan 2024 04:23:14 +0000 cobasica 6637 at https://ccrma.stanford.edu
