By this means they hope to create a new research ecosystem that can build and test improvements to the current paradigms. Blending a number of versions of the Electra story including works by Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, and Jean Paul Sartre, this retelling explores central questions regarding how communities escape from cycles of violence, the role of guilt and shame in community identity, personal responsibility, how justice interfaces with cycles of violence, and redemption. The artistic medium of the laptop orchestra both serves to recast the traditional instrumental role in a new kind of operatic medium (the &ldquo;laptopera&rdquo;) that reimagines the potential of instrument-building to support dramatic elements and character relationships -- while simultaneously positing critical questions about technology in our lives presently, both in its promise to help us flourish and in its perils to perpetuate and amplify the existing cycles of violence in our world today.&nbsp; <div>&nbsp;</div><div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-cost"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> FREE wth RSVP </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-intended-audience"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Open to the Public </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/sidelobe-furies-laptopera-act-i" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Fri, 22 Nov 2019 23:20:43 +0000 cobasica 5002 at https://ccrma.stanford.edu Decoding inner speech from intracranial recordings in the human brain https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/decoding-inner-speech-intracranial-recordings-in-human-brain <div class="field field-type-date field-field-event-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Date:&nbsp;</div> <span class="date-display-single">Mon, 11/25/2019 - <span class="date-display-start">4:00pm</span><span class="date-display-separator"> - </span><span class="date-display-end">5:30pm</span></span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-location"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Location:&nbsp;</div> CCRMA Seminar Room </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Event Type:&nbsp;</div> Hearing Seminar </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="200" height="133" alt="" src="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/user/malcolm/stephanie_martin_2018-9.jpg?1572892464" /> </div> </div> </div> Stephanie Martin will talk about decoding imagined speech activity from just brain signals.<br /><div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-cost"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> FREE </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-intended-audience"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Open to the Public </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/decoding-inner-speech-intracranial-recordings-in-human-brain" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Mon, 04 Nov 2019 18:38:49 +0000 malcolm 4988 at https://ccrma.stanford.edu IMSYS: Spectral Panning via Flocking Algorithms in a Multichannel Sound Environment https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/imsys-spectral-panning-flocking-algorithms-in-multichannel-sound-environment <div class="field field-type-date field-field-event-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Date:&nbsp;</div> <span class="date-display-single">Tue, 11/19/2019 - <span class="date-display-start">5:00pm</span><span class="date-display-separator"> - </span><span class="date-display-end">6:30pm</span></span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-location"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Location:&nbsp;</div> CCRMA Stage [3rd Floor] </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Event Type:&nbsp;</div> Guest Lecture </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="200" height="125" alt="" src="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/user/chechile/imsys_pic.png?1572913689" /> </div> </div> </div> Imitation Systems (IMSYS) and the accompanying research is primarily focused around the acoustic spatialization and locative control of frequency bins resulting from a Fourier Analysis of a signal via flocking algorithms. The process uses an implementation of Vector Based Amplitude Panning (VBAP) to spread frequency content of input audio through a multi-channel sound system while giving the composer discrete spatial control over individual FFT partials. Here the experience of time is slowed down as to transport us into an alternate dimension where the commonly apprehended reality is inverted into the otherworldly mystique of reflections and shadows. The amplitude of this ephemeral search for beauty encompasses phenomena found in nature, everyday life and art. The piece consists of 10 sections, which are woven into one structural entity of suggestive coherence.<div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-cost"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> FREE </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-intended-audience"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Open to the Public </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/ibuokl-martinaityt-in-search-of-lost-beauty" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Tue, 08 Oct 2019 23:43:28 +0000 cobasica 4956 at https://ccrma.stanford.edu
