Pluck the monochord at its midpoint and see if you can observe two traveling corners propagating away from the plucking point. It should evolve from an initial triangular shape, through a succession of trapezoidal shapes, until an inverted triangular shape is assumed, followed by a succession of inverted trapezoidal shapes until the original triangular shape is achieved. This behavior can be deduced from measurements made at various points along the string at known times relative to the initial pluck time.
