Student Composers

Available Performers

  • Anthony P. Martin, John Dornenburg would be interested in new music for violin, viola da gamba, and keyboard (preferably harpsichord). "Before a composer begins to commit to notes, however, s/he might want to consult with us about what's appropriate or possible on our (ancient!) instruments. Likewise, with Elaine or Talia about the harpsichord. However, it would be great to have some new repertoire."
  • David Henderson, Lecturer in Saxophone: I would love to play some new works by the students. I also play in a sax quartet that performs lots of new music and we play regularly at various universities around the Bay. I have two students that would be good candidates for this kind of thing, also. Saxophone players in general are used to new music and extended techniques. The pieces could be written for any saxophone, soprano to baritone.
  • Debra Fong - vn
  • Karen Van Dyke - I would be happy to program any compositions for flute ensemble (or flute ensemble with another instrument) composed by a Stanford student if any composition students are interested. At least once a year I receive a score for consideration from professional composers who would like their work premiered by the SFE (I just received one from Israel); we have performed several of these over the years. Standard flute choirs include piccolo, C flute, alto flute and bass flute, all of which we have. Compositions for 4 more C flutes also work. It might be helpful for the comp. students to understand that there is a terrific demand for flute ensemble music as flute choirs are cropping up all over the place, but since this is a fairly recent occurrence there is not a large repertoire written exclusively for this combination of instruments. (Most of what is available are arrangements.) It might also be of interest to them that the level of the SFE is extremely high and that we are near capacity in CRH for most of our concerts.
  • Mary Linduska - soprano
  • Robert Huw Morgan - organ
  • Rufus Olivier Jr. - basson, www.bassoontalk.blogspot.com
  • Sharon Wei - viola
  • Stephen Harisson - cello
  • Mac Kenley - trombone
