Audacity Installation Mac OS X
How to install Audacity on Mac OS X
Audacity is a free, open source software for recording and editing sounds.
Install Audacity 1.3.12 (Beta), which is the latest release. Unless you really have a good reason to do so, do not choose to install the older stable version 1.2.6a, as this one does not have some of the new very useful features.
Installation instructions (.dmg files):
1. Inside your Applications folder, create a folder called "Audacity" 2. Double-click the downloaded .dmg to mount it 3. Option-drag the whole of the .dmg contents (not the .dmg itself) into the "Audacity" folder you created 4. Double-click the Audacity icon inside the "Audacity" folder to launch the program
You probably will want mp3 support. Follow these instructions in order to be able to export mp3 files from Audacity:
1. Go to the LAME download page: http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/ 2. Click to download either "Lame Library v3.98.2 for Audacity on OSX.dmg" or "LameLib-Carbon.sit", according to your operating system. 3. Double-click the .dmg to extract "Lame Library v3.98.2 for Audacity on OSX.pkg" to Finder, or use Stuffit to extract "LameLib" from the .sit (either of these may happen automatically). 4. Double-click the .pkg to install "libmp3lame.dylib" in /usr/local/lib/audacity, or save "LameLib" anywhere on your computer. 5. The first time you use the "Export as MP3" command, Audacity will ask for the location of "libmp3lame.dylib" or "LameLib". Navigate to that location, then open the file and click "OK". 6. In case of difficulty, please view our more detailed instructions on the Audacity Wiki.
