Katherine Whatley is a koto (Japanese transverse harp) performer and PhD student studying premodern Japanese poetry and music. Her research and artistic output centers around the connections between written and spoken words, sound and music. Website: kwhatley.net.
Vaim makes folk music with computers. She sings to the damaged places, the wastelands both industrial and emotional. Combining Estonian regilaul with extended vocal techniques, her improvised rituals cradle the land, the body, and sound. Website: www.vaim.net.
