Vaim + Katherine Whatley

Date:
Sat, 11/13/2021 - 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Location:
CCRMA Stage
Event Type:
Concert
As the sun slowly sets, we will make music together. We invite you to join us and listen. Our music will be freely improvised using our voices, a koto, and electronics. The sounds might be gentle or hurting.
—Vaim & Katherine Whatley

Open to Stanford affiliates for in-person attendance

Katherine Whatley is a koto (Japanese transverse harp) performer and PhD student studying premodern Japanese poetry and music. Her research and artistic output centers around the connections between written and spoken words, sound and music. Website: kwhatley.net.

Vaim makes folk music with computers. She sings to the damaged places, the wastelands both industrial and emotional. Combining Estonian regilaul with extended vocal techniques, her improvised rituals cradle the land, the body, and sound. Website: www.vaim.net.

This concert is free and open for in-person attendance to Stanford affiliates only. Please register here with your Stanford email address. Any registration with a non-Stanford email address will be discarded. Each guest must bring their Stanford ID card to tap it at the front door, and wear a mask at all times while inside the building. Please visit the CCRMA COVID Policies webpage for more information.
