Since the pandemic began last Spring, the Stanford New Ensemble has been able to maintain our collective musical activities thanks to Jacktrip, the free and open-source software developed at CCRMA for low-latency, uncompressed audio. For this new academic year, we have been taking full advantage of the online format, with projects including animated graphic scores and text scores. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with composers Hassan Estakhrian and Mark Applebaum on their pieces PicTyourScore 2020 - Pandemic Edition and The Metaphysics of Notation. Completing the program is Pauline Oliveiros' Tuning Meditation, the perfect antidote for the sense of seclusion arising at times from the lockdown: through meditative listening, playing and singing, this sonic gathering brings participants together in the shared experience of making music collectively.
—Hans Kretz, Director of the Stanford New Ensemble
Wednesday's live stream will feature performers playing from home in locations around the US as well as Europe.
I would like to wholeheartedly thank Hassan Estakhrian, Constantin Basica and Mark Applebaum for their inexhaustible support.—Hans Kretz, Director of the Stanford New Ensemble
