In the outside environment, sound moves in sometimes-mysterious ways that involve ground impedance effects, refraction and turbulent scattering among other things. Understanding these processes is important for noise control, but it also opens up possibilities for modelling and simulation, potentially providing another way to produce interesting sounds based on physically-based models.
