Other CCRMA WAVE (Wall for AudioVisual Expression) presents Audiovisual Meditation Journal (2020) by Julie Herndon.
June 15 – July 26
During shelter-in-place, I recorded three audio scores meditations and sent them to pairs of artists, asking them to record either video or audio responses. The meditations focused on physical sensations and imagined states of being. My hope was to explore the strange sense of time and mental state that I and so many others experienced while in isolation: a reaching outward to community and a reaching inward to find peace. By creating the meditations, I tried to dive into these states of consciousness and share them narratively with others. In return, I was struck by the resonance I felt between the recorded responses and my own sense of those imagined spaces. I felt connected; my hope is to share that feeling of connection.
